The Adelphi Quartet consists of four European musicians. Founded in 2017 at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, the quartet studied with the Hagen Quartet. They received valuable support from Eberhard Feltz, Valentin Erben, Jonathan Brown, Clive Brown and György Kurtág.
Numerous prizes and awards at major competitions such as the Wigmore Hall Competition 2022 in London, the Premio Paolo Borciani 2021 in Italy, and the Irene Steels-Wilsing Foundation Competition as part of the Heidelberger Frühling String Quartet Festival in 2020 marked the beginning of a steadily growing international concert career.
At the beginning of the past year, the quartet made its debut at the Wigmore Hall, followed by performances at the Fundación Juan March in Madrid, the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and the Aldeburgh Festival. Other concert highlights include performances at the Sommerliche Musiktage Hitzacker, the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, the Berliner Philharmonie, Flagey in Brussels, the Musiktage Mondsee, Schloss Esterhazy, the Paris Philharmonie, the International Mozarteum Foundation Salzburg and debut and re-invitation to the Heidelberger Frühling String Quartet Festival. Furthermore, the quartet has given performances of Schubert's String Quintet with Valentin Erben (cellist of the Alban Berg Quartet).
The Adelphis enthusiastically engage in many teaching projects and have shared their own experiences through various workshops and masterclasses, including Jeunesses Musicales, the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, and the Wolfgang Sawallisch Music Academy.
Highlights of the current season include a debut concert at the Lucerne Festival, concerts at the Wigmore Hall, along with several tours in England and on the European mainland. They have already made several television and radio recordings with the Bavarian Radio, SWR, and NDR.
With a strong interest on new music and thanks to the generous support of Neustart Kultur, I&I Foundation, Cosman Keller Art & Music Trust, and the Aldeburgh Festival, the quartet is able to premiere and commission works from composers such as Madli Marje Gildemann (Sink), Tom Coult, David Moliner, Daniel Serrano, and Bushra El-Turk.
After their success at YCAT’s 2021 International Auditions, the Adelphi Quartet were selected as the first YCAT Hans Keller Artist, which led to the premiere and recording of "Saffron Dusk" by Bushra El-Turk.
