AMATIS proves the best things come in threes.” -MusicOMH
“Truly breathtaking… storm and passion to the fore, with a meticulous ear for colours and nuances,” wrote The Strad of the AMATIS Trio.
Founded in 2014 and based in Salzburg, the Amatis Trio has quickly risen to the forefront of the international chamber music scene, celebrated for its extraordinary energy, artistic freedom, and distinctive sound. Early recognition came with selection as BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artists in 2016 and ECHO Rising Stars in 2018, followed by other major international distinctions including the Kersjesprijs and the Borletti-Buitoni Trust Fellowship.
The ensemble brings together German violinist Lea Hausmann, British cellist Samuel Shepherd, and Dutch pianist Mengjie Han. Known for imaginative programming, the trio builds bridges between tradition and the present- and between performers and audiences, crafting concerts that unfold as vivid musical journeys.
The trio has appeared in more than 50 countries worldwide. Festival invitations have included the BBC Proms, Verbier Festival, Salzburg Mozartwoche and the Edinburgh International Festival, alongside regular performances at venues such as Wigmore Hall, Concertgebouw Amsterdam and Elbphilharmonie Hamburg. In 2026 the trio launched its very own annual festival in Bad Reichenhall, Germany.
The trio members also appear as soloists with orchestras including the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and the Athens Philharmonia Orchestra a.o.
Their recordings for cAvi Music/ Deutsche Grammophon have drawn critical attention, including a nomination for the Opus Klassik.
