The Carice Singers is a British vocal ensemble described as possessing a “beauty of tone” and “musicality” that “few can match” (Gramophone Magazine, 2016). Founded by George Parris in 2011, the group has already gained an enviable reputation for superb performances and imaginative programming, along with numerous recordings for Naxos and the BBC Music Magazine and performances in 2018 at the Cheltenham Music Festival and the Oxford Lieder Festival.
Named after Elgar’s daughter, the ensemble is committed to bringing a fresh, translucent sound and an interpretation-driven approach to a wide spectrum of choral music, with a particular passion for promoting curiosity and discovery for Romantic and Contemporary repertoire within people of all ages.
The Carice Singers’ three discs with Naxos (featuring music by Peter Warlock, John Ireland, E.J. Moeran, Frederick Delius, and Arnold Bax) have been highly praised for their “captivating interpretations” (Choir & Organ Magazine) and “beautifully blended tone” (The Guardian).
George Parris is a British singer and conductor, currently based in Helsinki, Finland, where he combines work as a singer and conductor with further studies at the Sibelius Academy. He read Music at both Cambridge and Oxford universities, where he also sang as a Choral Scholar with the choir of Sidney Sussex College (Cambridge), and then as a Lay Clerk with the choirs of The Queen’s College (Oxford), and Magdalen College (Oxford).
Parris has received a Certificate of Merit from the Elgar Society and commendation from other Societies for his commitment to the performance and research of British music. He has conducted the Croatian Radio-television Choir, RIAS Kammerchor and Somnium Ensenble (Finland), and observed the Danish National Vocal Ensemble, the Swedish Radio Choir, and the Latvian Radio Choir.
